Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a NGO (Non Governmental Organisation). This means that the organisation is not receiving gouvermental foundings for their work.
Their motto is that it is better to light a candle then to curse the darkness.

Amnesty International was founded in 1961 by an British lawyer with the name Peter Benenson. He founded the organisation because of an article he wrote in The Observer about two Portuguese students called "forgotten prisoners" .The article started a letter campain to release the forgotten prisoners in many countries. today the organisation has over 2.2 million members, supporters and subscribers in more then 150 countries. There works more than 400 people at amnesty International secretariat in London. Amnesty works to protect human rights, and they do this by using media attention, direct-appeal campaigns, research and lobbying. They have got years of expirience in doing this now, and it works!
